Voluntarius - Cross-Generational Voluntary Services
As cross-generational program, Voluntarius offers people over age 30 the opportunity to devote themselves to working in a church-related and/or social environment in a foreign country. Irrespective of their prior experience, the volunteers can get involved in a social project and thus closely experience life in their host country. They gain in-depth insights into the foreign culture, church life and social structures in the host country which no mere vacation would provide.
At the same time, the volunteers express their interest in other people, solidarity and connectedness beyond any physical borders. The main focus of their service is not on what they get out of it (e.g. job performance or payment), but rather on living, working and learning together. The voluntary service is a means to take a break from the daily routine back home which may be sensible for different reasons. It is a chance to:
- gain new ideas as to what to do with one’s life in the future (on the professional or private level)
- experience church and faith in a foreign country
- rise up to new challenges
- live differently for a while
- experience solidarity
- do something meaningful while retired
An international voluntary service combines one’s desire to discover and experience something new for oneself with the possibility to actively give one’s support to someone else.
