Protestant Voluntary Services for Young People FSJ / BFD and DJiA
We are a limited liability company operating as a non-profit organization linked to the Diakonisches Werk der EKD e.V. and the Arbeitsgemeinschaft der Evangelischen Jugend in Deutschland e.V.
One of our main tasks is to provide information an d advice to everybody involved or interested in voluntay service.
From our national office we coordinate the following:
- Diakonisches Jahr im Ausland – DJiA (Diaconal Year Abroad)
- Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr – FSJ (Voluntary Social Year) and Bundesfreiwilligendienst (BFD)
FSJ (Voluntary Social Year) and BFD
FSJ / BFD are voluntary service progammes which operate within the framework of the federal German law on the Voluntary Social Year.
We are the national office of the umbrella association of protestant organizations who offer the FSJ / BFD. We represent them officially at the federal level in the Church, in the Diakonie (the social-service arm of the protestant church in Germany), in political structures (parliament, government offices, ministries) and in society in general. We are responsible for the development of the qualitiy standards of the association and their fulfilment by each member. These standards must also be approved by the federal government.
At present, 40 organizations belong to the association. These organizations offer the FSJ to young people at the regional and the national level.
DJiA (Diaconal Year Abroad)
We operate the international program of the association called DJiA (Diaconal Year Abroad). This program we also represent at the federal level in Church, Diakonie, in political structures and in society.
As DJiA we are active from the initial contact with interested people resident in Germany through their placement with our partners abroad to their return to Germany. We send young people to church-related ecumenical partner organizations in other countries.
As DJiA we also coordinate the placement of volunteers from these partner organizations in the 38 FSJ organizations who have places available for volunteers from abroad.
