Your voluntary service abroad
With a voluntary service abroad, you can spend a year in another country, discover new cultures and gain valuable experience. You’ll meet new people, improve your language skills and make a difference to others. At the same time, you’ll have the opportunity to develop personally and gain new perspectives for your future.

Volunteering abroad involves practical work on charitable projects and is about working for and with other people. It is important that you are willing to get actively involved in the social sector and are open to new experiences and the living conditions in your host country.
It’s also important to apply early! Many organisations start holding information sessions and launching the application process as early as a year before departure.

The sending organisation (or 'Träger') is responsible for the practical organisation and support of volunteers from Germany, from the application stage through preparation to their return.
The placement is the organisation where you will be working as a volunteer, providing practical support to the full-time staff.
The host organisation: Many sending organisations work with a host organisation that supports the volunteers in the host country, organises mid-term seminars and visits the placement sites.

Our sending organisations work according to common quality standards. It is particularly important that volunteers are well supported and reliably assisted.
